5 Beautiful Hidden Beaches in Uluwatu

Uluwatu, situated on the southern Bukit Peninsula, is home to the most dramatic coastlines and crystal-clear waters in Bali. While spots like Padang Padang and Single Fin get all the hype, there are still a few serene, hidden paradises left.

1. Nyang Nyang Beach

You have to earn this one. Nyang Nyang requires a steep, sweaty 20-minute hike down a cliffside (and back up). Your reward? Over a kilometer of pristine, untouched white sand. You will likely have the beach entirely to yourself. Beware of the strong currents, as it is largely unswimmable during big swells, but perfect for beachcombing.

2. Thomas Beach

Located right between the bustling Padang Padang and Suluban beaches, Thomas Beach remains surprisingly quiet. You access it via a long set of concrete stairs. It features a wide stretch of soft sand, a few sleepy warungs selling coconuts, and great swimming conditions at high tide.

3. Green Bowl Beach

Named for its algae-covered rocks that get exposed at low tide, Green Bowl is famous for the hundreds of macaque monkeys that inhabit the cliff top. You descend over 300 steps to reach the small, idyllic cove. It also features a massive limestone cave where you can escape the midday sun.

4. Balangan Beach

While not entirely "hidden," Balangan is highly protected from massive development. The sweeping half-moon bay is ringed by rustic surf shacks. It's the absolute best place in Uluwatu to grab a cheap Bintang beer and watch the sunset without the pretentiousness of upscale beach clubs.

5. Bingin Beach

Bingin is a bohemian labyrinth. You must navigate narrow alleys and steep, winding stairs carved into the cliff. The beach itself is a mix of reef and sand, making it a world-class surf break. At night, the local warungs pull their tables onto the sand and serve freshly caught seafood grilled over coconut husks.

The terrain is steep. Wear proper sandals, not flimsy flip-flops.
Tide times dictate everything here. At low tide, the reefs are exposed; at high tide, the beaches can disappear entirely. Research the tides before you go!
